Our nature-based program is ideal for those diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
For people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a nature-based approach might be the answer they have been looking for. A nature-based practice offers treatment that is gentle, non-intrusive, and rooted in the present moment. This kind of therapy can be especially helpful for people who are dealing with trauma-related symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, and emotional numbing.
Our team at Jubilee offers guidance and support for individuals diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. We accept individuals 18 and older at our 10-acre farm for intensive outpatient services or through our outpatient medication or therapy programs. Either way, we are dedicated to ensuring you get the resources you need to heal.
Nature lowers cortisol levels and turns on the body’s natural “rest and digest” mode, the parasympathetic nervous system. This mode helps balance out the heightened stress response that people with post-traumatic stress disorder often have. Natural environments, such as those with the sound of leaves rustling, the feel of the ground under your feet, or the smell of cedar, can help people slowly come back into their bodies and feel safe again.
Additionally, nature-based practices teach you to be more mindful and allow you to better process and communicate your feelings, which is often challenging for those diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. In nature, feelings can come up and go away at their own pace as you walk quietly through the woods, put seeds in a garden, or sit next to a stream. In essence, nature is the ideal co-therapist because it doesn’t judge, is always there, and heals deeply.
